My life has done a 180 in the last 90 days. I have gone from a non-motivated couch potato to someone who is stronger both mentally and physically. I have pushed myself to do things I never imagined I could do. So many excuses were made in my life prior to Fitmania. “I work long hours, I don’t have time for exercise, I’m too tired, I deserve to lay on the sofa and watch TV”. Prior to Fitmania, my knees hurt, my back hurt and my shoulder hurt. These were more excuses why I shouldn’t workout. As I have gained muscle, my aches and pains have vanished. I now have more energy than I ever imagined. After a long day at work I look forward to going to a place with such positive energy and supportive people and trainers.
I felt at a loss and was at the end of my rope. I even started considering bariatric surgery. My daughter Brooke one day told me how a friend of ours, Peach, turned her life around by going to boot camp. I looked at the website and reached out to Peach, and a fitmaniac was born. That first week I thought I might die, but kept reading the sign in class “You will pass out before you die”. Each week I felt stronger and actually grew to miss it on Sundays.
I now live differently. No longer are the days of frozen, high sodium prepared meals and eating out. I now preplan my week. I make sure I have the healthy foods available and plan for the week. Time is spent at the beginning of the week chopping and preparing healthy food to ensure I will have a successful week. No longer do I feel ashamed of myself at the end of each week. Instead, I’m proud of myself and the changes I have made and the woman I am becoming.
This is a lifestyle, one that I can live with and maintain. It doesn’t feel like a crash diet course or some ridiculous workout program that I know I won’t maintain. Now that my kids are grown, it was time to put myself first. I want to be healthy and have energy to do things I enjoy. Someday I hope to run and play with my grandkids and be around to see my great grandkids. For the first time in my life I feel I am on the road to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I still have a long ways to go, but nothing will hold me back now. I am building a stronger, healthier body for years to come. I have learned consistency is the key with my workouts as well as preplanning my meals. Without that magic combination, I won’t continue on a path to greatness.
The person I would like to inspire and to experience the benefits of the lean for life challenge is my daughter, Brooke. She is stuck in the same place I was and struggles with her eating. I hope by being a good example and by her seeing my changes on the inside and outside she will be drawn to Fitmania. I will help her succeed by leading by example and encouraging her to go out of her comfort zone and challenge herself. Every time she is in Boise she goes to class with me. She moves back to Boise in May and I will encourage her to take on the challenge and change her life also.
