Are your feet strong? As I was doing bare foot “toe touches” today in the workout I took a good look at my toes and feet gripping the mat and my foot looked strong! I knew feet could and should be strong but I had never considered that feet could look strong.

We have about 35 muscles in each foot and yet who says,”headed for the gym, it’s foot day”?

The platform for most movement is our feet. Having strong feet is essential to balance and a strong body, but you can’t get strong feet in a pair of supportive athletic footwear. For your foot to work, it has to be bare. Even socks can prevent our feet from gripping the surface and from getting “feedback” from the surface. Some advantages of exercising barefoot:

  • Improve balance
  • Improve posture
  • Prevent common injuries like shin splints, plantar fasciitis, stress fractures, bursitis and tendonitis in the Achilles
  • Bonus tip: Keep your feet moisturized. You can workout barefoot without experiencing dry, cracked skin on your feet.
